Northwestern Audio Workshop Assignment
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Book Company has a runaway hit with their children’s book, A Mouth Full. To capitalize on its success, they are releasing an interactive digital version, and you have an opportunity to pitch your idea on how to implement sound design.
The publisher has the following needs:
· fully-voiced story
· an audio prompt for when to turn the page
· at least one interactive sound effect per page
This is their first time working in a multimedia format and are seeking your expert guidance in how to incorporate audio. After all, they loved your work on other children’s titles, including Why Can’t We Eat Poop?, It Wasn’t Me Who Broke It, and especially, Get Your Finger Out of There! It’s your job to not only satisfy their must-haves, but to demonstrate your creative prowess in suggesting additional sound design ideas.
To help you get started, reflect on the broad questions outlined in the presentation:
· What is the nature of the interactive experience?
· What are the needs of the developer?
· Are there external pressures that need to be considered?
· What is the architecture of a user’s experience?
Use the voiceover files, sound effects library, and other digital media provided, to help you solidify your decision-making process. Additional audio files can be found at FreeSound.org.
It is not required, but you are encouraged to incorporate your own recorded/altered sounds, as well as alter the provided audio. Get creative and have fun!

For your presentation, I’d like you to respond to the following questions:
· What is the name of your audio production company?
· Which voiceover performance is most appropriate?
· What is your aesthetic approach to sound design?
· When should the sound effects play?
· What is the point-of-view for the sound effects choices?
· What additional value propositions would you suggest?
· What challenges did you face?
Be prepared to playback sound effects during your presentation to support your decision-making process.
